Connecting SendGrid to AI: knowing why the mail arrives or does not
SendGrid can be connected to AI with a key from your own account. The assistant can send a message from your verified sender, show how delivery went over a period and, if you want, add a contact to a list. Sending reaches real recipients and adding someone to a list touches consent, so those two are switched on deliberately and happen only on request.
What the assistant does with SendGrid
Send a message
The assistant composes subject and content and sends it through SendGrid to the recipients you name. That happens from the sender address verified at SendGrid; an unverified sender is refused.
Use your own templates
Instead of loose text the assistant can use an existing SendGrid template and fill in the details that vary. Layout, logo and fixed sentences then stay inside SendGrid.
See how delivery is going
Over a period you specify, the assistant shows how much post was delivered and opened and what was clicked. That lets you answer delivery questions with figures rather than a hunch.
Bring bounces into view
The same figures show how many messages fail to arrive and how that develops across the weeks. A rising number of bounces usually points to a dirty list full of addresses that no longer exist.
Add a contact to a list
The assistant can add someone to one of your marketing lists in SendGrid. It is the only action that places a person in a commercial sending channel, so it stays off until you deliberately enable it.
Who inside the organisation benefits
E-commerce
- Situation
- A customer reports never receiving the order confirmation and customer service cannot check that without the SendGrid dashboard.
- What the agent does
- The assistant retrieves the figures for those days and looks at whether bounces appear and how delivery compares with a normal day.
- Result
- The employee can say with grounds whether the address is at fault or something else, instead of making the customer wait again.
Marketing
- Situation
- After a campaign week the marketer wants to know whether the mail was genuinely read more than usual.
- What the agent does
- The assistant asks for the figures of that week and sets them beside the week before.
- Result
- A factual picture of opens and clicks over the period, without exporting to a spreadsheet.
Retail
- Situation
- A retail chain sends a message for every click-and-collect order, but the wording differs per branch.
- What the agent does
- The assistant sends through a fixed template and fills in only the details of the order.
- Result
- The same layout and tone everywhere, with the differences kept where they belong.
Technical operations
- Situation
- The number of bounces is creeping up and nobody knows since when.
- What the agent does
- The assistant retrieves the figures over recent months and shows from which moment they start rising.
- Result
- A starting point for cleaning the list, with a date instead of a feeling.
From key to first send
-
1
Connect with your own key
The connector uses a key from your own SendGrid account, which your administrator can revoke at any moment. Access stays yours and nobody else's.
-
2
Fix the sender
SendGrid sends only from a sender or domain verified there. That address is recorded on the connector so the assistant cannot deviate from it.
-
3
Choose what is allowed
You decide which roles may use the assistant and whether sending and list management are part of that. Many organisations start with the figures alone, because they touch nothing.
-
4
Ask and check
After that an employee puts the question straight into IntraGPT. Every action lands in the log with its time and outcome, including a send that SendGrid refused.
Sending and lists are two different risks
A wrongly sent mail is annoying; putting somebody on a marketing list without asking is a different kind of problem. The connector treats those two separately.
Where the data lives: Nederland of de EU
One fixed sender
Mail goes out from the verified address you configured. The assistant cannot choose another sender address, so nothing leaves under a name that is not yours.
Consent comes first
Adding someone to a list never happens on the assistant's own initiative. You enable that deliberately and it is used only when asked explicitly, with the list named.
Figures without content
The delivery figures are about numbers: delivered, opened, clicked, bounced. No address file and no message content travels along with them.
Processing on your own server
Drafting the texts and summarising the figures happens on our own server in the Netherlands with open-weight models. No external model provider is involved, and nothing of yours is trained on.
Frequently asked questions about SendGrid and AI
Can I connect SendGrid to ChatGPT?
That would place a key able to genuinely send mail with a public service, without roles and without an audit log. IntraGPT keeps that key in your own environment, lets you decide per role who may ask for a send and records what happened. The model that drafts the text runs on our own server.
Does IntraGPT work with SendGrid?
Yes. SendGrid sits in the catalogue as a working integration. The assistant can send a transactional email, show the delivery figures over a period and add a contact to a list, using a key from your own account.
Why does our mail not arrive?
That is exactly what the figures are for. The assistant pulls the picture for the period concerned and looks at the ratio between delivered, bounced and opened. A rising number of bounces usually points to a list full of addresses that no longer exist. If delivery stays normal but opens fall, the problem sits more in the subject line or in the recipient's spam filters.
What happens if the sender address is not verified?
SendGrid then refuses the send and the assistant gets an error back instead of a delivered message. Verifying a sender or the whole domain is a one-off action inside SendGrid itself. After that the address is fixed on the connector, so nothing ever goes out under another name.
Can the assistant use our existing templates?
Yes, and that is usually wiser than letting the AI lay out the whole mail. The template with your house style, logo and fixed sentences stays in SendGrid and the assistant fills in only the details that differ per message. The look stays consistent and changing the layout is a matter of editing the template.
May the assistant add people to a marketing list itself?
Only if you enable that and only on explicit request. Putting someone on a list means that person may start receiving commercial mail, and that is a consent question rather than a technical one. Many organisations leave this off and keep list management with the marketing team.
What does a SendGrid connector cost?
The connector is part of the project we run together. What drives the work is whether you only look or also send, how many templates are involved and which roles may have mail sent. Usage at SendGrid itself runs through your own subscription there.
How long does setup take?
If the sender is already verified at SendGrid, the connector works quickly and can be tried the same day. If that verification still has to happen, you wait for it. Beyond that the time goes into agreeing who may have mail sent and what is and is not allowed with contact lists.
