Connecting ConvertKit to AI: subscribers, forms and sequences at hand
ConvertKit, these days Kit, can be connected to AI. The assistant checks whether someone is already a subscriber, reads back who joined recently, signs a new subscriber up through a form and can apply a tag. That tag is the sensitive point here, because in Kit a tag can set an automatic sequence of emails running.
What the assistant does with the subscribers
Check whether someone is already a subscriber
Verify by email address whether someone is already on the list. Useful before signing anyone up, and useful when a participant says they are not receiving anything.
Read back who joined
Request the subscribers over a given period, for instance since a webinar or since an article appeared. That shows what an action delivered without anyone having to make exports.
Sign someone up through a form
A sign-up runs through a form, just as on the website, with the name and the extra fields attached to that form. The form stays the place the consent hangs on, even when the request came in through the assistant.
Apply a tag
Attach a tag to an existing subscriber. In Kit that is often the starting signal for a sequence, so the assistant first names which series is attached to it and waits for an explicit request.
Who gets the most out of this
Education
- Situation
- A teacher hears from a student that the lesson emails are not arriving, and has no idea where to look.
- What the agent does
- The assistant checks whether the address is known and which tags are attached to it, and reports what is missing.
- Result
- One question makes clear whether it is the sign-up or the sequence, without the teacher entering the system.
Online courses
- Situation
- After a free webinar the creator wants to know how many people signed up afterwards and whether it was worth it.
- What the agent does
- The assistant reads back the subscribers for that week and sets them against the week before.
- Result
- A factual picture of what the webinar delivered, available on the day rather than at the monthly review.
Membership organisation
- Situation
- A member signs up by phone for the newsletter about regional meetings.
- What the agent does
- Once agreed, the assistant signs them up through the form belonging to that newsletter, with the name included.
- Result
- The sign-up is in place immediately, through the same form and the same confirmation as a sign-up on the site.
Podcast and newsletter
- Situation
- A listener asks whether they can receive the deep-dive series on one topic, separate from the weekly mail.
- What the agent does
- After confirmation the assistant applies the tag belonging to that series, having shown how many messages that involves.
- Result
- The listener gets exactly what they asked for and nobody has to set it up by hand.
Connecting the Kit account
-
1
Connecting through the platform
An administrator grants IntraGPT access to the Kit account and switches the connector on. That access can be withdrawn at any moment, after which the connector stops working.
-
2
Setting permissions
You decide which roles may look things up and who may have a sign-up or a tag done. Many creators start with lookup only, because that removes the questions without anything being able to change.
-
3
Using the assistant
After that you simply ask what you want to know: is this person on the list, how many sign-ups came in this week, sign this address up for the newsletter. The answer comes from Kit at that moment.
-
4
Following along in the log
Every consultation and every sign-up is in the log. For an applied tag that makes it traceable when it happened and at whose request, which helps if someone later wonders why they received a series.
The form is the moment of consent
In Kit the consent hangs on the form someone signs up with. That is not a formality but exactly the place where it is recorded what a person said yes to.
Where the data lives: Nederland of de EU
Signing up by the normal route
A sign-up through the assistant passes the same form as a sign-up on the website. The promise printed on that form therefore still applies, even when the request came in by phone.
A tag can start a series
The assistant applies a tag only on explicit request and reports beforehand which sequence is attached to it. If it does not know, it applies nothing and asks first.
You decide who has access
Looking up and signing up are separate rights. An employee answering questions gets by on lookup alone and needs no ability to change the list.
Processing on our own server
The data from Kit is processed on our own server in the Netherlands with open-weight models. None of it is used to train a model.
Questions about the ConvertKit connector
Can I connect ConvertKit to ChatGPT?
For an organisation that is hard to justify. You would give a public service access to your subscriber file, while it holds tags that start automatic mail sequences. IntraGPT connects Kit inside your own environment, with rights per role and a log, and processes the data on our own server.
Does IntraGPT work with ConvertKit?
Yes. ConvertKit is in the connector catalogue and in use at customers. The assistant can look subscribers up and read them back, sign someone up through a form and apply a tag.
Is it called ConvertKit or Kit now?
Since the rename the platform is called Kit, but many people still say ConvertKit and search for it that way. It is the same product and the same account. We keep both names so you find the connector under the one you are used to.
What is the difference between a tag and a sequence?
A tag is a characteristic you attach to a subscriber, for instance that they attended a webinar. A sequence is a series of emails sent one after the other. The connection between them is that a tag is often the start of a sequence. The assistant can apply a tag, but it does not compose sequences; that stays work you do in Kit itself.
Why does a sign-up run through a form?
Because in Kit the form is the place that states what somebody is signing up for and what they can expect. By routing the sign-up through that form, someone who says yes on the phone or at a desk gets exactly the same treatment as someone signing up on the site. It also keeps the origin of the consent explainable afterwards.
Can the assistant send a newsletter or broadcast?
No. Writing and sending outgoing mail stays in Kit itself. The assistant can think along about the text and supply the subscriber details you use to decide who it should go to. The only thing that can indirectly lead to mail is a tag attached to a sequence, and for that it asks permission first.
What does a ConvertKit connector cost?
Connecting is part of the project we run together. The work is determined by whether signing up and tagging are allowed alongside looking things up, by the number of forms taking part and by the roles allowed to use the assistant.
How long does setting it up take?
The connector is in place quickly and a lookup question can be tested the same day. The time goes into walking through the forms and the tags: which sign-up route belongs to which newsletter, and which tags start a series you would not want to kick off by accident.
