Connecting Mailchimp to AI: audiences and campaign results in one question

Mailchimp can be connected to AI. The assistant tells you which audiences exist, finds sent campaigns and gives the results of a send with opens and clicks. It can also sign someone up for a list, and that happens only on explicit request, because putting someone on a mailing list is not a technical act but a question of consent.

Everything in Mailchimp revolves around the audience: the list of subscribers a newsletter goes to. Anyone with several brands, several countries or several newsletters also has several audiences, and then the first question behind every request is which list is actually meant. In practice one marketer knows that by heart and the rest of the organisation does not, so every question about the newsletter ends up with the same person. The second reason to hang Mailchimp on an assistant is the result of a send. After a newsletter someone wants to know how it went, and today that means logging in, finding the right campaign and copying the numbers into a meeting or a monthly report. With the connector you simply ask in plain language and get the answer with the earlier sends to the same audience beside it. That last part matters most: an open rate only means something once you know where it comes from and what it is compared with. The assistant therefore presents the figures in relation to each other and attaches no verdict that does not follow from them.

What the assistant gets out of Mailchimp

Knowing which audiences exist

The assistant names the audiences on the account with their size. That makes clear straight away which list a question is about, including for colleagues who never open Mailchimp themselves.

Signing someone up for a list

Adding an address to an audience, with the name and the tags belonging to that list. If the list uses double confirmation, the person first receives a confirmation email and is not a subscriber until they click.

Finding what was sent

Looking up sent campaigns with their name, their subject line and the moment they went out. Useful for the question of whether a customer has already had a particular announcement.

Seeing how a send performed

Requesting the results of a campaign: opens, clicks and unsubscribes. The assistant places them next to earlier sends to the same audience, so the conversation is about the trend and not about one number.

Where marketers win time back

E-commerce

Situation
Every Monday the marketer wants to know how Thursday's newsletter performed, and every Monday she opens Mailchimp in a separate tab for it.
What the agent does
The assistant looks up the most recent send for the webshop audience and gives the results, with the two previous newsletters alongside.
Result
A comparison instead of a single number, without anyone logging in or retyping anything.

Retail

Situation
A retail chain keeps a separate audience per country and nobody remembers by heart which list is which.
What the agent does
The assistant names the audiences with their size and then continues with the list the user points to.
Result
No more wrong list in a report, and new colleagues can ask the question themselves.

Publishing

Situation
An editorial team receives newsletter sign-ups on paper forms and transfers them by hand.
What the agent does
Once the subscriber has agreed, the assistant signs the address up to the right audience, with the name and a tag for the section.
Result
The sign-up is in place the same day, with the confirmation Mailchimp sends to the subscriber itself.

Management

Situation
The monthly meeting asks whether the newsletter still delivers anything, and the answer is a feeling every time.
What the agent does
The assistant puts the results of the recent sends side by side and names the trend that comes out of them.
Result
A conversation about the direction instead of about who should look the numbers up.

From account to first campaign question

  1. 1

    Connecting through the platform

An administrator creates a key in Mailchimp for IntraGPT and switches the connector on in the platform. Nothing more is needed to start.

  2. 2

    Setting permissions

You decide which audiences take part and which roles may use the connector. A list of customers and a list of applicants do not belong to the same assistant, even though they sit in the same account.

  3. 3

    Using the assistant

After that you ask your question in plain language, for instance how the last newsletter did or which list a customer is on. The assistant fetches the answer at the moment of asking.

  4. 4

    Following along in the log

Every consultation lands in the log with the question and the result. For a completed sign-up that makes it traceable when it happened and at whose request.

Connected securely

A mailing list is a set of personal data

An audience is a file of names, addresses and behaviour of people who once said yes. That calls for a connector that reads nothing out in bulk and signs nobody up unasked.

Where the data lives: Nederland of de EU

Consent comes before convenience

The assistant signs nobody up because it happens to be handy. Signing up happens on explicit request, and on an audience with double confirmation the final consent comes from the subscriber.

You decide who has access

Per role you record who may use the connector and who may have a sign-up done. A colleague without that right does not get to see the data.

No printout of the whole list

The connector is there to answer questions, not to move files around. There is no way for the assistant to read out all the subscribers of an audience in one go.

Processing on our own server

The data from Mailchimp is processed on our own server in the Netherlands with open-weight models. Nothing from it is taken along to train a model.

Questions about the Mailchimp connector

Can I connect Mailchimp to ChatGPT?

There are technical ways to give a public chat service access to a Mailchimp account, but for an organisation that is hard to justify. You would be granting access to a file of personal data, without roles and without a log. IntraGPT connects Mailchimp inside your own environment, scoped per audience, and records every consultation.

Does IntraGPT work with Mailchimp?

Yes. Mailchimp is in the connector catalogue and in use at customers. The assistant can name the audiences, sign someone up, find sent campaigns and give the results of a send.

Can the assistant compose and send a campaign?

Sending is not something it does. The connector looks at campaigns and their results, but composing and sending stays in Mailchimp itself, with the people responsible for it. The assistant can think along about the content and prepare a text that somebody then puts into Mailchimp.

We have several audiences, does the assistant keep them apart?

Yes, and that is one of the reasons to connect in the first place. It names the audiences and asks which one you mean if the question does not make that clear. During setup you also record which lists the assistant may see at all, so a test list or an old file stays out of view.

Why is a new subscriber not active straight away?

If the audience uses double confirmation, Mailchimp first sends an email the person has to confirm themselves. Until that click they are not a subscriber. That is the safest way to add someone and it is the default we keep to. Only if you explicitly agree otherwise, with consent demonstrably recorded elsewhere, can that change.

How does the assistant read an open or click rate?

In relation, not as a loose number. One send with a given open rate says little without the earlier newsletters to the same audience beside it. The assistant therefore prefers to line up several sends and name the direction. It draws no conclusion the figures do not support.

What does a Mailchimp connector cost?

The connector is part of the project we run together. What determines the work is the number of audiences, whether it stays read only or sign-ups may be done, and which roles may use the assistant. The Mailchimp subscription itself continues to run with Intuit.

How long does setting it up take?

Connecting is a short job for an administrator, and after that it can be tested the same day with a question about the lists. The time usually goes into agreeing which audiences take part and who may have a sign-up done.
