Connecting Shopify to AI: orders, stock and customers in the chat
Shopify can be connected to AI. The assistant looks into your store: orders with their payment and shipping status, products with their variants, customers, and stock per variant and per location. It can also update a note or a label on an order, but you enable that separately.
What the assistant sees in your Shopify store
Orders with their status
The assistant finds orders and shows whether they are open or closed, whether they have been paid and whether they have shipped. Narrowing by period is possible too, everything from today for instance.
Products and their variants
The catalogue can be searched by brand, by product type and by whether a product is active. Every product brings its variants along, so sizes and colours come with it.
Look up customers
A customer can be found, from the email address in an incoming message for example. This is personal data, so the assistant takes no more of it than is needed to answer the question.
Stock per variant and location
In Shopify stock applies not to a product but to a variant, and to the location where it sits. The assistant therefore always names which variant and which location it means, so an answer is usable in the shop and in the warehouse alike.
Update a note or a label
The assistant can adjust a note or a label on an order, to record an agreement made with the customer for instance. This touches the real store, so it happens only on explicit request.
Everyday work in the web shop
Customer service
- Situation
- A customer emails about an order and asks whether it is on its way.
- What the agent does
- The assistant finds the customer by email address and retrieves the order with its shipping status.
- Result
- An answer in the same email, without anyone opening the Shopify admin.
Purchasing
- Situation
- Before the weekly ordering round it has to be clear which variants are nearly out.
- What the agent does
- The assistant walks through the stock per location and sets it alongside the products from that supplier.
- Result
- An ordering list ready on Monday instead of an afternoon of exporting and sorting.
E-commerce
- Situation
- At the end of the day somebody wants to know which orders are paid but not yet shipped.
- What the agent does
- The assistant lines up today's orders and separates the paid ones from the shipped ones.
- Result
- A picking list for the warehouse that comes from the store itself, not from memory.
Marketing
- Situation
- For a campaign the question is which products from a brand are still active in the catalogue.
- What the agent does
- The assistant searches by brand, checks which products are active and lists the variants.
- Result
- A selection that matches the store right now, not a spreadsheet from last month.
Retail
- Situation
- A shop assistant wants to know whether an item is still in stock at the other location.
- What the agent does
- The assistant looks at the stock for that variant across both locations.
- Result
- A customer who leaves the same conversation with an answer instead of a promise.
Setting the connector up step by step
-
1
Access from your own store
The connector works with an access key you issue in your own Shopify store and can withdraw again. One connector belongs to one store, so figures from two shops never get mixed up.
-
2
Choosing what the assistant may see
You decide which parts of the store the assistant can look into. If you want it to talk only about orders and stock and leave customer data out of it, that is possible.
-
3
Looking on, or updating as well
Looking on is the default. Updating notes and labels on an order is a separate choice that you enable for the roles that genuinely do that work.
-
4
Readable back in the log
Every question and every change is recorded. For an updated order you can therefore trace which order it concerned and who asked for it.
Customer data from the web shop
A web shop holds names, addresses and order histories of real people, which makes looking up customers the most sensitive side of this connector.
Where the data lives: Nederland of de EU
Personal data in moderation
The assistant retrieves customer data only when the question calls for it, and takes no more than needed. Complete customer lists do not belong in a chat answer and do not end up there.
Never the whole order history
The assistant works within a boundary: a customer, an order, a period, a product group. Emptying the store in one go is not a way of working this connector supports.
Writing is enabled separately
A label or note on an order can be picked up by other processes, by your shipping software for example. That is why updating is a separate choice and happens only on explicit request.
On a dedicated server
The model runs on a dedicated server in the Netherlands. Customer and order data from Shopify does not go to an American model provider and is never used for training.
Questions shop owners ask
Can I connect Shopify to ChatGPT?
ChatGPT has no built-in connection to your Shopify store, and pasting customer data into a public chatbot does not suit a web shop. With IntraGPT you chat in the same way, but with a connector tied to one store, where you decide what the assistant may see and everything is recorded.
Does IntraGPT work with Shopify?
Yes. Shopify is in the IntraGPT connector catalogue. The assistant can request orders, products, customers and stock, and update a note or label on an order if you want it to. Which of those it gets is decided during setup.
What does a Shopify connector cost?
Connecting is part of the project we run together. What determines the work is the number of stores, whether the assistant may also update orders and which roles may use it. A short conversation makes that concrete.
How long does setup take?
Making the connection takes minutes. The lead time usually sits in deciding what the assistant may see and whether it may only look on. Once that is clear the connector stands the same day.
Why does the stock not match what I see in the admin?
Stock applies per variant and per location. A product with three sizes has three stock figures, and those can differ per location. If an answer looks different from the screen, first check whether the same variant and the same location are meant.
Can the assistant cancel orders or issue refunds?
No. The only thing it can adjust are notes and labels on an order. Cancelling, refunding or reporting a shipment is not part of it and stays work in Shopify or in your shipping software. That is a deliberate boundary.
Can it answer questions across several stores at once?
One connector belongs to one store. If you run several shops you set one up per shop. You can give the assistant access to several stores, but it then always names which shop a figure came from.
Can I keep customer data out of the connector?
Yes. During setup you decide which parts of the store the assistant can look into. Many organisations start with orders, products and stock and deliberately leave customer data out, or open it up for customer service only.
