Connecting Mixpanel to AI: find out where users drop out of your product
Mixpanel can be connected to AI. The agent can break an event down by a property over a period, retrieve the flow through an existing funnel and, when explicitly asked, record an event itself. Every question carries a concrete event and a concrete period, because without those two an answer from Mixpanel means nothing.
What the agent looks up in Mixpanel
Count an event over time
Segmentation gives how often an event occurred between two dates, per day, week or month. That answers questions like how many trial accounts started this month, with the trend alongside.
Break it down by a property
The same count can be split on a property of the event, for instance the plan, the country or the source. A flat number becomes a distribution you can act on.
The flow through a funnel
For a funnel that already exists in Mixpanel the agent shows how many people reached each step within the chosen period. The step where most people fall away stands out immediately.
A funnel per group
A funnel can be split on a property too. Then you see whether the drop-off applies to everyone or only to one segment, for instance new users against existing ones.
Record an event
The agent can write an event for a user. That changes the analyses, so it happens only when explicitly requested and with the name and properties from your tracking plan.
What the conversation is actually about
SaaS
- Situation
- The number of new trial accounts stays flat, but fewer of them turn into paying customers.
- What the agent does
- The agent retrieves the funnel from sign-up to first payment over two periods and splits it by source.
- Result
- Clear at which step and for which intake the drop-off grew, instead of a hunch.
E-commerce
- Situation
- A new version of the checkout page is live and the team wants to know whether it works better.
- What the agent does
- The agent counts the checkout event per week before and after the release and splits it by device.
- Result
- A grounded conversation about the difference, with mobile and desktop figures kept apart.
Education
- Situation
- A digital learning environment wants to know which parts are still used after the first week.
- What the agent does
- The agent counts the usage events per module over the first month and lines them up.
- Result
- A list of parts that stick and parts nobody returns to after one visit.
Product management
- Situation
- For a quarterly review the same figures have to be pulled out of the report builder all over again.
- What the agent does
- The agent runs the fixed set of segmentations and funnels on the new period and delivers the outcomes in one overview.
- Result
- The review starts at the interpretation instead of at the gathering.
Connecting and agreeing the ground rules
-
1
Connect from the platform
An administrator connects Mixpanel from within IntraGPT and designates the project the agent may look at. So the agent always looks in the same project and cannot quietly switch to another one.
-
2
Record the list of names
Write down in the instruction which events exist, exactly what they are called and which properties they carry. In practice Mixpanel is case sensitive, and an event that does not exist simply returns zero rather than an error.
-
3
Writing on or off
If you only want to analyse, leave the recording of events switched off. If recording is allowed, agree which events may be written so the analyses do not get polluted with test data.
-
4
Always with period and event
Every question is translated into a concrete event and a concrete period, and both appear in the answer. That makes it possible to trace later where a number came from.
Behavioural data says a lot about individuals
Events are tied to users, so even a product analysis is ultimately about people. That is why the connector is bounded and why writing is a deliberate choice.
Where the data lives: Nederland of de EU
One project per connector
A connector belongs to one Mixpanel project. If you measure several products you create a connector per product and decide per connector who may use it.
Writing is not a side issue
Recording an event changes the reporting for everyone who looks at that project. The agent does it only on explicit request and afterwards names the event it recorded.
Only what the question needs
The agent asks for a count or a funnel, not an export of every event per user. What ends up in the answer is the outcome, not the raw behaviour of individual people.
Processing on our own server
The figures are processed on our own server in the Netherlands. They do not go to an external model provider to be interpreted there.
Questions about the Mixpanel connector
Can I connect Mixpanel to ChatGPT?
There is no managed connection through which an organisation attaches ChatGPT to a Mixpanel project with a fixed project, roles and logging. IntraGPT connects with the keys of your own project, with the actions you switch on, and the model runs on our own server.
Does IntraGPT work with Mixpanel?
Yes, and it is a working integration in use at customers. The agent counts events over a period, breaks them down by a property and reads existing funnels. Creating reports or building dashboards is not part of it, for that you stay in Mixpanel itself.
Why do I get zero back while there clearly is data?
Almost always because of the name of the event or the property. Those differ per product and are written exactly as they were created, capitals and spaces included. A name that does not exist yields no error but an empty count. So let the agent read off the existing names first.
Can the agent create a new funnel?
No. The agent reads funnels that already exist in Mixpanel. You create new funnels in Mixpanel yourself, after which the agent can read them and compare them per period or per segment.
What does a Mixpanel connector cost?
The connector is part of the trajectory we go through together. The work sits in the access, in the choice whether the agent may record events, and in writing down the list of event and property names.
How long does setting it up take?
Connecting is quick. After that the time goes into the tracking plan. If it is well documented the agent is usable within a day. If it only exists in somebody's head, writing it down is the first thing we do together.
Is this the same as a web statistics connector?
No, and they complement each other. Google Analytics 4 is about traffic to a website: sources, pages, channels. Mixpanel is about behaviour inside a product: which steps people take and where they drop out. Campaign questions belong to the first, usage questions to the second.
Can we prevent events from being written?
Yes. Leave the recording of events switched off and the agent can only count and read funnels. That is the usual choice for an agent used by a broad team.
